Look At the Cemetery Pictures - Then You Tell Us !

April 28, 2012

ROXIE, MS -  The Roxie Cemetery is one of the oldest in Franklin County.  The question is ... Why is Cemetery so run down with grass, weeds, fire ants and poison ivy?  Who is in charge?  Some of the graves go back to the civil war and some of the graves are now at the edge of the surrounding woods and could be lost forever considering the tombstones have been broken and are now leaning up against others.  Many are overgrown and it is apparent that not all graves get the grass cut.  Why ?   Look at the few pictures !

Just a simple question.  Why is Cemetery so run down when so many generations of Franklin County residents are buried in this Cemetery that has such a long history?  Use the comment section at the end of this article to make your comments known to the staff of the Franklin County News Service.  You do not have to enter your name.  Just make your comment or suggestions.

FHS Grad Casey Edwards Coaching in South State Championship

April 29, 2012
by: James O Covington

ROXIE, MS - Franklin County High grad Casey Edwards will coach his Brookhaven Academy Cougars against defending champion Centreville Academy Thursday at 4:30 in Brookhaven for the South State Championship in Academy baseball.

Edwards, whose team eliminated Wayne Academy and No. 1 ranked Central Private in recent weeks will have their hands full with a cat-quick Centreville Tigers team.

"This is what it comes down too, the best two teams in the South playing to go to a State Championship," said Edwards. "We've both won the last two State Championships, and its been a rivalry between us because of that."

Brookhaven Academy won State in 2010, than Centreville followed behind last year. Both teams are loaded with talent again, and MLB Scouts are expected to be on hand for the series.

"When these two teams play, you've got to be there," said Minnesota Twins Regional Scout Rick Sellers. "Both are strong this year."

Centreville is led by LSU signee Hunter Devall, a crafty left-handed pitcher that's hit 91mph on radar guns. The Tigers also have shortstop Hunter Travis, a Louisiana Tech signee and catcher Tyler Towles, a Southwest C.C. signee.

For Brookhaven Academy, the team is basically young except for All-State senior centerfield Christian (Bubba) Keene, a 6-foot, 4-inch switch hitter and likely a MLB Draft Pick come June. Co-Lin signee Hunter Franklin is also a solid hitter for the Cougars.

Game One of the Series will be Monday Night (April 30th) at Centreville starting at 7pm.
