Former FC Bulldogs Suit Up in Semi-Pro Football Action

May 28, 2012
ROXIE, MS  -  Three former Franklin County Bulldogs plan to  suit up this Saturday in new Semi-Pro football action in Brookhaven, Ms.

Call it the ‘Dandy Dozen Team’ or a group hoping to catch the eye of an NFL scout passing through. The Tri-County Heroes, a Semi-Pro football team based out of Brookhaven, will debut Saturday night at 7:00 at Brookhaven High’s King Field against the Pike County Iron Horse in newly developed Gulf-Coast League of Minor League Football.

The team has a Franklin County flavor to it as well, featuring three former Bulldogs that starred on the Bulldogs 2006 Class 3A State Championship squad in linebacker Mike Hunt, defensive lineman Bo Tillman, and safety Greg Hunt. All three played college football, and are hopeful to catch on with an Arena League or Canadian League team. Tillman will don jersey #81, while Mike Hunt will wear jersey #21, and Greg Hunt jersey #5.

Jimmy Johns, the former Mississippi Mr. Football will quarterback the team. Johns led the Brookhaven Panthers to a Class 4A State Championship in 2004, and signed with Alabama. Off-the-field trouble derailed Johns shot at the NFL, plus it took away his senior season. After being profiled on several Jackson news-stations and magazines, Johns is hoping to make an impression on pro-scouts.

Both Johns and Tillman are former ‘Dandy Dozen’ selections by the Clarion-Ledger. Hazlehurst alum Jazzmen Guy is another at Dandy Dozen product, who will play both defensive and offensive tackle on the team.

As football goes, Saturday night should be fun for those wondering where yesterday’s high school stars are today. The team will play games each Saturday, stretching from Pensacola, Florida to Hammond, La. Kickoff is set for 7:00 this Saturday evening at Ole Brook.
