ADAMS COUNTY, MS - FC News Staff has compiled the most up-to-date news stories of the Adams County Correctional Center riot which took place on Sunday, May 20, 2012. The facility is located at 20 Hobo Fork Road and Hwy 98/84, Natchez, MS 39120
Correction Corporation of America opened its newly-constructed $128 million facility in late 2009. Adams County Correctional Center was a contract award from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to house up to 2,567 inmates. Criminal alien offenders began arriving in December 2009.
The opening of the new facility created more than 400 new jobs in the state of Mississippi. “This is a momentous development for Adams County, its surrounding communities and the entire state of Mississippi,” said former Gov. Haley Barbour at its opening. “For more than a decade, and especially during these troubled economic times, CCA has remained a viable partner with state and local governments, filling a public need and providing good-paying jobs to Mississippians. Now, bringing a federal contract to our state represents yet another success in the making of this important public-private partnership in corrections.”
Sunday afternoon riot is the first reported major conflict since the facility opened.
